Carmen Selby is a South Florida interior designer whose work spans oceanfront penthouses, private residences, professional offices and the interiors of ocean-going yachts. Trained in architectural technology and fluent in the full arc of a project — from preliminary presentation drawings and space planning to construction details, purchasing and installation — she brings a builder’s precision to a designer’s eye.
As the founder of Selby Studio, Carmen composed interiors for clients from Las Olas and Fort Lauderdale Beach to North Miami Beach, and fitted out motor and racing yachts from St. Louis to Puerto Vallarta and Puerto La Cruz. Every architectural drawing, rendering and page of her studio’s look book is her original work — much of it lettered and drawn by hand.
Today she designs with Robert Soldo Design and Fernandez Brena Design, bringing three decades of South Florida practice to each collaboration. Her earlier career includes tenures at preeminent firms Dianne Joyce Design Company and Peggy Nye + Lodin Architects.
“I’m interested in the world you’re living in — guided by your personality and style, we can create an authentic interior for your home.”
“Stylistically there are strands shared by all design — print, fine art, fashion, furniture. Biomorphic + international = cool.”
“Conversation, food, drink — these shared pleasures deserve a comfortable chair. Positive and negative space make table and chair a complementary pair.”
A hand-bound volume of steel mesh and teak — photographs, material samples, floor plans and calligraphed notes, assembled by Carmen as a visual tour of her ideas. Every drawing, rendering and page is her original work.
